About the Owners It was the true love of creativity that launched Hoogland’s Wood Shop. Founder and co-owner, Chuck Hoogland, built his first piece of furniture at the age of 14. Chuck was building log night stands when his classmates were building bird houses. He got away from building log furniture for awhile, but in the early 1990’s, after building a few pieces for friends, his interest for furniture making was rekindled.
Chuck continued to create various pieces and in 2000 he began making log beds out of his garage. Word quickly spread about the quality products Chuck was producing and soon he needed a larger work space. That’s when Hoogland’s Wood Shop was established on Hwy U.S.2 in Crystal Falls, MI. The business has since expanded and the shop moved to Florence, WI.
Conrad Kolberg joined Chuck as a partner in 2005 as the business continued to grow and flourish. Conrad brings another level of knowledge to the business. He first went to school to become an accountant but realized life behind a desk was not for him. So, he continued his education and recently graduated with a degree in Carpentry and Cabinet Making. He still likes numbers (just not accounting!) and uses those skills to create kitchen cabinets and counter tops, log beds, dressers and night stands, and, of course, Hoogland’s signature custom built and installed log railing.
